[Master's Thesis] - Development and characterization of an aerosol nebulizer for vaccine application.
Description:
Aerosols surround us every day without much notice. From rain droplets formed by nucleation of water
on particles in the atmosphere, to powders produced in aerosol processes in industrial scales, they
play a fundamental role in many processes. Since the Covid-19 pandemic, also the transmission of
pathogens as aerosols is widely known and researched. This further accelerated the development of
aerosol vaccinations and therapeutics to directly act at the site of infection.
In a new project in our group at the Chair of Analytical Chemistry at TUM and the Site for Immunology,
Infectious and Pandemic Research at the Fraunhofer Institute for Translational Medicine and
Pharmacology ITMP-IIP we aim for the development of a new inhalation device for application of a
vaccine as aerosol. The project is in collaboration with two other Fraunhofer Institutes that already
developed the vaccine formulation and successfully tested it in a mouse model.
Possible tasks in the project:
- Development of an aerosol inhalation device based on defined
parameters and established nebulization principles
- Characterization of the particle size and dose emitted by the
inhalation device
- Evaluation of the influence of the inhalation device on the
integrity of the vaccine formulation
- Iterative optimization of the inhalation device to meet target
parameters
Your Profile:
- Student of Biosciences, Chemistry, or Physics in final Master-Semester
- Experience working in a lab with hazardous substances (like acquired in bio and chemistry lab
courses)
- Technical background or affinity (Ideally but not required)
- Previous experience with programming languages (Python, MatLab; ideally but not required)
Start:
As soon as possible.
Location:
Our Team is located in Großhadern, München in Feodor-Lynen-Straße 21.
