Student Assistant (HiWi) – Biochemistry / Molecular Biology

17.04.2025, Studentische Hilfskräfte, Praktikantenstellen, Studienarbeiten

The NTase Lab at TUM is looking for a motivated student assistant (HiWi) to support our research on nucleic acid immunity and the molecular functions of nucleotidyltransferases (NTases).

We study how the immune system detects pathogens, and which mechanisms help prevent autoimmunity. Our research combines cutting-edge technologies, including structural biology and LC-MS, with classical protein biochemistry methods. Located at the Center for Functional Protein Assemblies (CPA) in Garching, our lab offers a highly collaborative and supportive research environment.

Your tasks:

- Molecular Cloning (PCR, Gibson Assembly, mutagenesis, transformation, gel electrophoresis, plasmid isolation)
- Preparing buffers, media, stock solutions & competent cells
- Refilling lab stocks (e.g. SDS-PAGE gels, LB agar plates)
- Performing Western blots
- Recombinant protein expression & purification
- General lab support (e.g. glass ware sterilization)

Once you are integrated into the lab, additional responsibilities can be adapted to your interests. This is a great opportunity to gain hands-on research experience in a dynamic and supportive environment.

Your Profile:

- You are enrolled in a university program in biosciences or a related field
- You are interested in laboratory-based research
- You are available for > 10 hours per week for a minimum of 6 months
- You are enthusiastic, communicative, and open-minded
- Prior lab experience is a plus but not required

What we offer:

- working student contract (HiWi) for up to 20 hours/week
- active involvement in ongoing research projects in the field of innate immunity
- insight into lab organization and management
- comprehensive training and supervision from experienced lab members
