Cloning and cultivation of egg and whey proteins in Bacillus subtilis

Master's Thesis - Cloning and cultivation of egg and whey proteins in Bacillus subtilis

28.07.2025, Abschlussarbeiten, Bachelor- und Masterarbeiten

The project focuses on the microbial production of egg and whey proteins using Bacillus subtilis. By leveraging genetic engineering and precision fermentation, we aim to develop sustainable, animal-free alternatives to conventional agriculture. The work combines molecular biology, strain development, and bioprocess design.

Tasks
• Plasmid and primer design using Benchling
• Performing PCR, agarose gel electrophoresis, SDS-PAGE, etc.
• Transformation of E. coli and B. subtilis cells followed by sequencing
• Expression of integrated egg and whey proteins

Requirements
• You work independently, in a structured and reliable manner
• You are open-minded and communicative
• You have good command of English (written and spoken)

We Offer
• The opportunity to gain insight into the field of precision fermentation
• Exciting and self-directed tasks
• A respectful and collaborative working environment
• Flexible working hours and the possibility to work remotely by arrangement

About Us
The Professorship of Cellular Agriculture (Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marius Henkel) was established in September 2022.
The main focus is the development of biotechnological processes and concepts for the alternative production of agricultural goods. In doing so, the group addresses key challenges related to environmental impact, animal welfare, and sustainability issues associated with conventional animal farming.
